Strong Olympic Debut for Anderson

Australia’s Tim Anderson has finished seventh in the final of the Men’s Kayak Single Final in front of a vocal crowd at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, including Paris double gold-medallist team-mate Jessica Fox.

Making his Olympic debut, Tim navigated the challenging white-water course, paddling third and crossing the line in 90.90 seconds.

Despite a couple of errors in the run, Tim was pleased with how he raced.

“I am really happy with the way I conduct myself,” said Tim.

“My paddling was really nice. I made a few mistakes, but it’s pretty rare that you don’t make a mistake at some point in your Olympic campaign, especially in the final.”

Italian Giovanni De Gennaro won the gold medal, with local hero Titouan Castryck winning silver and bronze going to Pau Echaniz (ESP).

After missing out on selection for the Rio and Tokyo Olympic Games, 30-year-old Tim Anderson never gave up, and now his resolve and determination are paying off.

The Victorian-born athlete was among some of the world’s paddling elite. He was competing against rivals such as Joseph Clark, the 2023 K1 World Champion from Britain, and Jipro Prskavec, the 2023 silver medallist, who both failed to secure a medal.

“I’ve gotten a lot better at closing that gap between my worst and my best performance over the last couple of years,” said Tim.

“Cracking that top three takes something really incredible,” Tim remarked.

“You’ve really got to put everything together at the right time, and that’s quite hard.”
