Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine CREDIT Sailing Energy HR

When Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine went out on their first sail together there was only one thousand days until the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. They didn’t take to sailing like ducks do to water.

Price likes to tell people she’s known her crewmate Evie Haseldine since she was ‘in her mother’s belly!’, vividly remembering when Evie’s mother was pregnant and carrying Evie. Little could she know that one day – at Evie’s insistence – they’d pair up just 18 months before the Paris Olympics to launch an audacious medal campaign.

They had to learn quickly, and the passion and energy they have invested was rewarded with a bronze world championships medal in 2023, the best ever performance by an Aussie 49erFX crew at that level.

In the NSWIS Lights Up athlete documentary series, Price speaks frankly and opening about how, after missing selection for the Rio Olympics, she noticed some things about the sport – and herself – she didn’t resonate with. However, she explains why – after a five-year break – she has never loved the sport more and Haseldine, reveals why her Olympic bid has forced her to ask deep and tough questions of herself.

Fast forward to August 2024 and Price and Haseldine are waiting to compete in the medal race of the women’s skiff at the Paris Olympic Games. After the final was delayed due to poor wind, the women’s skiff team will race on Day 7, from 8:13pm AEST tonight, Friday 2 August.
