Shane Rose competes in Eventing on horse Virgil at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Reserve athlete Shenae Lowings has been called into the Equestrian Eventing team to complete the final jumping phase riding Bold Venture after the withdrawal of Kevin McNab and Don Quidam.

Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Château de Versailles, it was a day of mixed emotions for the Australian Equestrian Team in the cross-country phase of the Eventing competition.

Unfortunately, Kevin McNab did not complete the cross-country phase following an injury to the horse on course and elected to retire his horse, Don Quidam, in the horse’s best interest.

The horse was assessed by the Australian team veterinarian, who advised that Don Quidam sustained a soft tissue injury. He is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

The withdrawal paved the way for Shenae Lowings to make her Olympic debut.

She will join fellow NSWIS athlete Shane Rose, who set the pace for the Australians as the second rider on course for the day with his long-time ride Virgil. Rose also crossed the finish line with no jumping penalties but accumulated 2.80 time faults. Despite the increase in his overall score, he moves from 38th to 23rd position individually.

The competition continues on Monday 29th July starting at 7pm AEST.
