Here’s one special Australia Post stamp which acknowledges the spirit of an athlete who wouldn’t allow the mail it’s stuck on to be stopped by flood, bush fire, or any of the nation’s other natural hazards because, throughout her life, she’s allowed nothing stand in her way . . .

It’s the Lauren Parker Paralympian of the Year stamp.

The stamp, which is available today, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, was printed to commemorate Parker – one of Australian sport’s genuine super women – being named the nation’s Paralympian of the Year at last weekend’s gala ceremony on the Gold Coast.

She was bestowed that title in recognition of her history-making performances at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Parker, a New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) Scholarship holder, became the first Australian to win gold medals in two different sports at the same Games, inspired all Australians by winning the grueling women’s PTWC Para triathlon and the equally as tough women’s Para cycling H1-4 road race.

Rounding off her memorable campaign in the French capital was Parker’s lioness-hearted effort to return home with the silver medal for the women’s Para cycling H1-3 time trial.

Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Cameron Murray said the acknowledgements were a fitting tribute to Parker’s feats, and for her also being a role model for so many people around the world.

“I’m thrilled to see Lauren’s outstanding achievements from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games celebrated in such a unique and meaningful way,” he said.

“Lauren’s tenacity and resilience resonate with so many Australians, which is why we are grateful to Australia Post for producing these stamps which are fitting tribute to an incredible Paralympic athlete and role model.

Mr Murray’s sentiment was echoed by Aus Post Executive General Manager Retail Josh Bannister.

“As one of Australia’s largest disability-confident recruiters, I’ve seen firsthand how, with the right support and determination, people of all abilities can achieve greatness – just like Lauren,” he said.

“We’re proud to celebrate Lauren’s success with this stamp – which honours her as both an incredible athlete and an inspiration to all Australians.”
