Australia’s Canoe Slalom athletes are gearing up for their final event on home soil before heading overseas in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In a final bid for selection, Australia’s athletes will compete in the 2024 Canoe Slalom Australia Open at Penrith Whitewater Stadium this weekend.

It will be a world class field for the final domestic event of the season, with athletes from more than 16 nations set to take part – including Australia’s Olympic champion and New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder, Jess Fox, Olympic and world champion Jiri Prskavec (CZE), and Great Britain’s Joe Clarke MBE (3x Kayak Cross world champion).

After securing the men’s canoe quota for Australia last weekend, Western Australia’s Brodie Crawford is in pole position for selection to his first Olympic team and will be looking to impress selectors this weekend.

NSWIS’s Tim Anderson was Australia’s best placed athlete in the men’s kayak at last weekend’s Oceania Championships, putting himself in good stead for nomination to his first Olympic team. Anderson will headline this weekend’s kayak event alongside dual Olympian, and fellow NSWIS scholarship athlete, Lucien Delfour.

All eyes will be on Sunday’s Kayak Cross event, with Australian Noemie Fox – NSWIS – set to go head-to-head with reigning world champion Kimberley Woods (GBR) and World Cup gold medalist Luuka Jones (NZL). It will be important racing experience for Fox, who is hoping to qualify an additional quota for Australia in June at the Kayak Cross Global Qualification event in Prague.
