Subaru-NSWIS rider Sam Jenner recorded the biggest victory of his career this weekend with victory in the 2017 MARS Cycling Australia Road National Championships under-23 race in Buninyong.

19-year-old Jenner took his opportunity in the final few laps of the Buninyong circuit and maintained his lead over the peloton in punishing 30-degree heat.

Jenner endured a tough final lap in which his legs were cramping but, as he explains, “You can sort of feel it but when you know there is a gold medal on the line you just push yourself and it just seems all the pain goes away.”

Jenner’s success was part of an excellent weekend for NSWIS’s young cyclists having taken medals in the men’s and women’s under-23 criterium earlier in the week.
