Two-time Paralympian Janna Mizens has joined the NSW Institute of Sport as the new Wheelchair Basketball Coach.

Mizens, who won gold with the USA at the 2004 Paralympics, has a diverse background in professional roles and basketball programs both internationally and in Australia.

Mizens joins NSWIS in a part-time capacity to focus on preparing wheelchair basketball athletes for Tokyo 2020, and will also support the Gliders (Australia’s senior women’s national team) with Basketball Australia.

With the Paralympic Games just around the corner it’s an important time for the sport, and Mizens is excited by the prospect of coaching some of Australia’s best wheelchair basketballers.

“There’s only 10 months until the Paralympics and so it’s a crucial time in our preparation for the Games.

“It’s going to be a pleasure to coach this group of players in the lead up to Tokyo 2020.

“Australia have some great experience in their squads as well as some impressive talent coming through so it’s a really exciting prospect to work with NSWIS to develop these athletes”.
