Skateboarding athlete Poppy Olsen has taken the win in the Women’s Finals for the Nanjing’s Vert World Championships which took place at the World Roller Games last week, marking the first official medals awarded to a skateboarder.

With Skateboarding included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Poppy Olsen was recently given an Individual Scholarship with the NSW Institute of Sport.

NSWIS have worked closely with Olsen in her preparation for the World Championships and beyond to Tokyo.

Four 30 second runs with the best run counting, saw Olsen secure victory. The Australian led from the first run and kept improving from there. Her gold medal routine was filled with stylish aerials, inverts and a perfect twist.

Fresh off a bronze medal at the 2017 X-Games in Minneapolis, the 17-year-old from Manly defeated American Arianna Carmona and Poland’s Amelia Brodka to take the top spot on the podium. The number one ranked Australian Skateboarding Federation Vert rider, Olsen also took out the Australian title earlier this year.

Olsen now moves her focus to the Olympic discipline Park World Championships, which will be contested in Shanghai next week between 21-24 September.
